From Wednesday 16th September, the Blog will be redundant (all together now....ahhhh). The new look Club website, found at www.didsburyjuniors.co.uk will take on the role of blog and website (oh yes folks it is that good!!) It is currently live online for your viewing and investigation!!

Things to look out for include -

On the Club Homepage, in the Club News section you will find out fixture & training arrangements for each weekend for ALL age groups
Each age group has their own designated section, including player profiles and match reports, as well as other interesting bits and pieces.
Latest scores and fixtures for each age group can be found by visiting the Notice board

August Manager of the Month

Congratulations to Thomas Green (U10) who has picked up the DJFC Fantasy Manager of the Month Award. His team, Tom's Tigers, picked up 158 points in August and are 10 points clear of second place Alveos United GZ managed by Fran. At the foot of the table, FC Gazzle, managed by Under 7's coach Gary, have a miniscule 67 points after an administrative error!! (well if you can't remember your password!!)

Parental Responsibility

The new season kicks off on Saturday 6th September and I just wanted to remind parents and spectators of their responsibilities when watching games. DJFC coaches are all FA qualified and are there to develop the players in the style of play which we have decided on. They will provide ALL direction and technical information and you should refrain from doing so, unless asked. The ethos at DJFC is on developing players rather than winning at all costs, like some teams you will come across this season. Matches act as a stage for the players so they can show the coaches what knowledge they have and what is missing, hopefully the missing parts will then be worked on by the coaches throughout the season.

Your role is to encourage & support our team and act in a good manner towards the opposition. Before and after the game remain positive towards your child, things you may try and do are as follows:

1. Before the game set your child a TARGET, e.g. can you make 3 saves today (GK) / complete 4 tackles today (DF) / make 3 good passes (MF) / have 5 shots on target (FD). Then after the game, ask them how they got on and praise them for their effort.
2. After the game ask them open ended questions rather than giving them your own appraisal or simply asking 'did you win today?' Examples might be - How did you play today? How did the team play today? Did you enjoy the game today? What was the best thing you did today? What did you learn from today's game?

Lasting keepsake

Five Years in the Making...is a fabulous photographic book charting the Club's 5th full season, 2007-08. The book has a wonderful collection of photographs from the Family Fun Day, the Parent v Coaches match, training at Fog Lane Park, match action, squad photos and a photo of a 'baby-faced' Carl Kirkham, Joe Lennon, Connor Cowan, Matthew Bradley, Chester Lilley and Bradley Nuttall (the 'original Didsbury Junior'!!) - the first group of players ever to represent DJFC at the Manchester FA Football Festival!!

The book would be a great gift or would be ideal for the players to have and to look back at and savour in years to come. The photographic book comes in a faux leather black hard cover with over 50 images within the 20 pages.

The price per book is £25 which includes direct delivery to your home address and also includes a donation to the Social Committee for 08-09, as it sets about raising more than the £1,000 achieved last season which was donated to the Lancasterian School. If you would like a copy of the book then please provide us with your name and address and payment. (Cheques can be made payable to Didsbury Juniors FC)

We do have ONE copy available for pre-purchase viewing which you may browse through at training (no dirty, wet or sticky hands on it though!! haha)

Please support this Social Committee project as I'm sure you will enjoy looking through the images and seeing all your friends, coaches and supporters of Didsbury Juniors FC.

Lancasterian School Donation

This Friday (18th July) the Club shall be donating £1,000 to the Lancasterian School thanks to the hard work of the players, parents and supporters of the Club in raising money at the Social Events this season.

Thanks to Stuart & Mary Hollins who kindly donated £100 to make the final donation figure of £1,000.

The presentation is happening at the school during their coffee club on Friday, 10am to 11am. So far, a couple of parents and players (wearing their DJFC shirts!!) have kindly agreed to turn up for the presentation but it is not too late to join us, simply email didsburyjuniors@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

Cup Winners

Eight boys from Didsbury Juniors were part of a successful Beaver Road Primary School side which won the schools cup on Thursday, defeating Oswald Road with a 5-3 victory.

Congratulation to all the players involved - Louis Gee, Ben Seol, David Bullen, Oliver Herrera, Connor Cowan, Charlie Royle, Jacob Thomas and James Newman. Goals were scored by David, Oli, James and two for Connor.

Samba Beats Football Coaching

The Club is hosting the annual FUN DAY @ BROOKWAY HIGH SCHOOL, 10am to 1pm on SATURDAY 21st JUNE.

There will be NO TRAINING @ Fog Lane Park on this day. Players attending the FUN DAY must pay £3 each and all families are welcome.

In a thoroughly enjoyable game at Fog Lane Park it was the Coaches who ran out winners after a strong second half performance.

In the opening stages it was very cagey with the Parents' defence being marshalled well by Phil Bullen and neither side wanting to make the first mistake. The Parents thought they had gone 1-0 up when a fine flowing move involving Darren, Mick and finished off superbly well by Chris, with a header, was ruled out for offside against Mick. The Ref indicating that he was offside by the width of his stomach apparently!!

Directly after this disappointment, the Parents team faced more just before half time as Scott raced through into the box and was hauled down for a penalty. Young Garry stepped up and slotted the penalty into the top right hand corner. Half time 1-0 to Coaches

In the second half the game continued at the same 'walking' pace with the crowd now swelling, as news of this thrilling encounter spread around Didsbury Village. Paul Drobig nearly pulled the Parents level from kick off, a delightful lob which narrowly spun over and wide. In the opening 10 minutes it was constant pressure from the Parents but the Coaches back line stood firm. Against the run of play, the second goal came for the Coaches, a ball from central midfield, out wide to Coynie, who drew the keeper off his line before chipping the ball into the net.

Paul thought he'd then scored a net-bursting third but instead of the rippling net, all that was heard was a thud, as the ball hit the brave Nick Royle in the face - great defending, I'm sure the scares will be worth it!!

As the Parents team tired, Simon, in the Parents goal, pulled off a stunning save as the ball looked to be heading for the top corner. Garry moments later scored his second and the Coaches third. A free-kick which deceived Simon and flew into the back of the net. The Coaches could smell victory and pushed forward looking for a fourth. It came from a mazy dribble by Gareth, taking on at least four players before slotting the ball into the far corner - sublime.

But if the Coaches thought they would have it all their own way in the final 15 minutes, they were wrong. Rob made at least three cracking saves, when the Parents broke free of the Coaches defence. For many the sound of the final whistle came with great relief!

A massive thank you to the players, supporters and ref all of whom made the afternoon very enjoyable - another game is on the cards, for October time, so keep your eyes peeled if you'd like to be involved in this game.

Club & League Presentation(U9/U10)

This will take place on Sunday 1st June 2008 @ the Stockport Plaza. Provisionally, the Under 9's will be presented trophies at 11am, with the Under 10's expected to be there for 12.15pm

The Club's own presentation, for all players, is booked for SUNDAY 15th JUNE 2008 @ Burnage Rugby Club, Heaton Mersey - 5pm start - tickets will be £10 per player (enables up to 5 family/friends to attend)

Sport Relief

The Club shall be hosting its own Sport Relief Mile!! The event will take place on Friday 14th March @ Rushford Park, during training. Each player will be asked to complete 21 laps of the astro-turf which is the equivalent to 1 mile!! For every player that completes the 21 laps, the Club will donate 50p to Sport Relief (normal £2 subs payable on day). If parents/carers/grand parents/siblings would like to join in, they can - simply bring your walking or running shoes and your 50p donation! It would be absolutely great if we could raise in excess of £100, which would mean over 200 people taking part! Let's get behind Sport Relief and put the Didsbury Juniors Mile on the map!!

UEFA Cup Final Tickets 2008

Tickets for the UEFA Cup Final 2008, to be played at CoMS go 'on sale' today. The process they have put in place is that you apply for tickets, then there is a ballot to see who gets allocated the 11,000 tickets.

Please apply as the tickets would make a great raffle prize/auction prize for the Club, if not wanted yourself or, depending on how well Spurs do, I (or the legions of Spurs fans within the Club, well Chris & Woody) might be snapping them up off you (I hope!!)

Club Fundraising

Every Friday night there will be a Football Card available at training for everybody to have a go at. To play - simply choose the team you want, write your name by it and put the £1 stake in the pot to stand a chance of winning £20!

There are 40 teams to choose from, so the remainder of the money will go the DJFC Social Committee who to date have done a great job in organising a Curry Night, a Quiz Night, an opportunity for boys to be ball boys at Stockport County and the Xmas Party. Watch out for many more activities in the coming future!

All monies raised by the Social Committee are used for the benefit of the Club members or given as charitable donations so please support it's activities.

Smoking Policy

Please note that all DJFC HOME venues are NO SMOKING.
This includes - Fog Lane Park, Rushford Park and Acacias Primary School.

We are a Sporting Club and would therefore kindly request that those who wish to smoke, would do so off-site not on the sidelines. This also applies to AWAY supporters, so if you see anybody lighting up, please ask them nicely to put it out.
